MINAS DE ALQUIFE 

Minas de Alquife is Europe’s largest open-pit iron ore mine, strategically located near major steelmakers and producing high-quality ore through environmentally responsible and socially sustainable operations.

Project activities

MINAS DE ALQUIFE will host and operate the BSI demonstration plant at its mining site in Spain, providing the industrial environment for long-term pilot production of sponge iron using iron ore fines from mining operations. MINAS will support the installation, commissioning, and operation of the prototype plant, as well as the validation of the technology under real industrial conditions. The sponge iron produced will subsequently be used for industrial melting trials, contributing to the assessment of the process scalability and commercial viability.
