Kick-of-meeting

On 13 May 2026, the Bio Sponge Iron (BSI) project officially launched its activities with an online Kick-off Meeting, bringing together all consortium partners and representatives of the European Research Executive Agency (REA).

The meeting provided the opportunity to introduce the consortium, review the project objectives, work plan, responsibilities and upcoming activities, and establish the basis for effective cooperation throughout the 42-month project. Each partner presented its expertise and expected contribution to the development and demonstration of the BSI technology.

BSI aims to develop an innovative route for producing sponge iron from iron ores and mill scale using biochar and renewable electricity, contributing to more sustainable and low-carbon iron and steel production.

The consortium would like to thank Elsa Papadopoulou, BSI Project Adviser, and Maya Landis from REA for their participation and valuable contribution to the meeting, including guidance on project implementation, reporting, communication, dissemination and exploitation activities.

The Kick-off Meeting marked the first important step in the collaborative implementation of the BSI project.
